CHARLESTON (AP) — West Virginia Attorney General Darrell McGraw is asking a court to bar seven Internet payday lenders and five collection agencies from operating in West Virginia.

McGraw said Tuesday his office filed two lawsuits in Kanawha County Circuit Court, one against the lenders and one against the collectors.

The lawsuits ask the court to bar the companies from making payday loans or collecting in the state. It also seeks an order that would require the companies to comply with investigative subpoenas issued by McGraw’s office.

In 2005, McGraw’s office began investigating companies that make payday loans to consumers over the Internet. West Virginia law does not allow payday lending.
