PHELPS, Ky. — Quick thinking by a convenience store employee helped Kentucky State Police capture a man who had robbed the business.
Larry Thacker Jr., 31, and Patricia Rose 48, both of Kimper, are currently in the Pike County Detention Center, charged with second-degree robbery and theft by unlawful taking of more than $500.
KSP say Post 9 in Pikeville received a call about 6 p.m. Tuesday from the Phelps Double Kwik, stating the business had just been robbed.
Information obtained at the scene indicates that an unidentified male entered the business, told the clerk that he had a weapon and demanded cash and cigarettes. The man fled the scene in a silver Dodge, which was driven by a woman.
The clerk at the business was able to give police a vehicle description and a license plate number before the vehicle fled the scene.
Trooper Kevin Thacker was traveling on Ky 194 East when he observed a vehicle matching the description and tag number traveling at a high rate of speed. Trooper Thacker along with KSP Detective Jimmy Anderson conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.
Money from the Double Kwik robbery was found on the person of Thacker, a passenger in the vehicle. Both the passenger and the driver were charged in the robbery.
This incident remains under investigation by KSP Detective Jimmy Anderson.
