Staff Report

Officials at Belfry High School were not taking any chances when a rumor surfaced about a possible threat to students’ safety.

According to Vice Principal Mark Gannon, circulated rumors stated that a student at the school had made threatening remarks.

“We are aware there was a rumor, and that it was a topic on a social media website,” Gannon said. “However, we could not find a single person who had actually heard any threat or plans. We could find no evidence of any kind.”

Gannon said the school contacted the Pike County Board of Education, and worked with the Kentucky State Police and the Pike County Sheriff’s Department.

“We followed protocol to ensure the safety of our students,” Gannon said.
