MADISON – The Mingo Miners lost their first game of the season to Scott 62-61 this past Saturday at the Coalfield Shootout played at the Madison Civic Center in Boone County.

The Miners were outscored 18-13 in the final quarter and it ended up costing them a close game.

They missed several free throws and some easy layups, according to coach Brad Napier.

“We played hard and played well at times,” Napier said. “But, I think playing emotional games on back to back nights was tough on us.”

“One positive thing we got from this game was that some of our kids got some quality minutes,” he added. “Zack Barker, Mallie May and Stevie Hammond came off the bench and played well for us.”

“We just lost our focus down the stretch. We need to learn from the loss. We also need to learn that we have to put a full game together,” Napier said.

Austin Banks led Mingo Central with 21 points, while Alex Lee scored 14 and Chase Hatfield scored 12. Julius Hatcher chipped in six.

Scott was led by E. May with 17, C. Brown with 13 and M. Dolan with 10.
