Special to the Daily News

The West Virginia Good Sams Camping Organization held their state meeting on Saturday, Dec. 1, in Weston.

Representatives from all the chapters and the state staff meet for lunch at 11 a.m. followed by the state meeting at noon.

The meeting was checked off by playing the package game and the business meeting followed. Chapters selected their Samboree duties and fund raisers for 2013. The group also worked on a target list of how to give more pizzazz to their chapters to attract new members of all ages to their chapters and the state organization and implement these in 2013.

Chapters reported on their charity work and membership growth since the September meeting. All the WVGS are working in the communities to help out in many different ways during the holiday season. 2013 Samboree applications were passed out.

Everyone was encouraged to keep their chapter info and Samboree applications (big RV Rally) in their RVs and their vehicles in an effort to recruit new members for their chapters. Chapters were given direction on how to get all their meetings and campouts posted with their local media and on their chapter Facebook pages and the state Facebook page within a few days of each of their events. Chapters are encouraged to post their meeting and camping schedules on chapter Facebook pages need to be kept current.

The WVGS are looking for new members and friends for all their chapters.

Many chapters just enjoy spending time with each other at local camp outs or traveling in caravans together. The pleasure most members receive from the various get-togethers is the sense of sharing a common interest, swapping travel adventures and keeping one another posted on the best routes to their RVing destinations.

Community service is another aspect many chapter memberships offer. While having fun, chapters may participate in local civic events and fund raisers, for such organizations as Dogs for the Deaf, Ronald MacDonald House, Special Olympics, and Make a Wish Foundation, just to name a few.

Each spring and fall the West Virginia Good Sams hosts a Samboree (big RV Rally). For more info on the Samboree, Contest WVGS State Director Don and Kathy Wise at 304.482.7576 or visit the website at www.wvgoodsams.com or visit their Facebook Page-West Virginia Good Sams. Each chapter has a Facebook page as well.
