Tug Valley cheerleaders win 4th straight regional title

BELLE – This past Saturday the Tug Valley High School cheerleaders won their fourth straight regional title.

This time it was in Region III, Class Single-A. The event was held at Riverside High School in Kanawha County.

“We got the 4th highest score in the state with a 336.95. We will advance to the state tournament on December 8 at the Charleston Civic Center,” Coach Tara Deskins Ellis said.

Tug Valley won the Class AA state championship last year.

“We are very proud of our girls and the way the competed,” Ellis said. “They practiced hard and prepared for this.”

The cheerleader squad members are seniors Brittany Fitzpatrick, Shaunda Murphy, Farren Staten, Chelsea Sturgell, Whitney Sturgell; juniors Elizabeth Dotson, Danielle Gillman, Kristen Gillman, Kiersten Marcum, Victoria White; sophomores Lyndsey Horn, Hannah Marcum, Courtney Spaulding; freshmen Kathleen Damron, Allison Hanshaw, Skylar Hanshaw, Darah Maynard and Cassidy Runyon.
