LOUISA, Ky. – The Belfry Pirates got back on the winning track as they pounded Lawrence County 41-6 Friday night at Louisa, Ky.
Belfry rolled up a total 425 yards on offense, 357 rushing and 68 through the air.
The top rushers for Belfry were junior Trinity Carr with 169 yards on 12 attempts and senior Josh Robinson with 59 yards on five chances.
The Pirates scored early in the first quarter as Josh Robinson scored a touchdown on a 36-yard run. The extra point kick by Carr was good and BHS led 7-0.
In the second quarter Carr scored on a 59-yard run. He booted the extra point to make it 14-0.
Then sophomore Keaton Taylor scored on a 32-yard TD reception from junior quarterback Sani Warren. The PAT by Carr was good giving the Bucs at 21-0 lead.
Belfry and Warren were 4-of-8 passing for 68 yards.
Before the half, Lawrence County’s A.J. Cyrus scored on a 28-yard run. The extra point kick attempt was no good, but Belfry led 21-6 heading into the dressing room at the half.
In the third quarter, Carr got his second TD on a 2-yard dive and his extra point kick was good giving the visitors at 28-6 advantage.
Taylor scored his second touchdown of the night on a 7-yard carry. The conversion kick by Carr was good making it 35-6.
In the fourth quarter, Davontae Dari scored on an 8-yard carry. The extra point attempt by Keilan Carr was no good, making the final 41-6.
The Pirates were playing without junior running back Justin Johnson, who was out with a concussion suffered last week against Ashland Paul Blazer. Dari, who scored the final TD for BHS, returned from a dislocated elbow suffered in the first game of the season.
Belfry was led on the defensive side of the football by Madison Ghormley and Payton Mullins, who both had nine tackles.
Belfry is now 6-2 on the season and will play host to district rival Pike County Central this Friday night. Kickoff, as usual, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
