Tug Valley’s Joe Deskins competed in the state golf tournament last week at Oglebay Park resort in Wheeling.

Deskins finished as one of the eight medalist for Class A. He finished 7th in the state in his division.

“He was also named to the All-State team,” his coach Aileen Perry said. “He made Tug Valley very proud. He is a talented golf and an excellent young man.”

He shot a two-day total of 166 with scores of 82 and 84 at the Wheeling course.

Deskins is only the second high school golfer from Mingo County to make it to the state tournament.

For Panther golfer Davey Jude was the other to make it. He is now a member of the Marshall University golf team.

High school golf teams are new to this county. Both Mingo Central and Tug Valley now have men’s golf teams. Both squads did very well this season.
