25th Annual Coal Toughman Contest at Logan

LOGAN - Jerry Thomas’ West Virginia Sports Promotions announced today that the 25th Annual Coal Area Original Toughman Contest will be held November 9th & 10th at the Logan High School Field House. The very popular Toughman Contest is one of the Logan area’s largest events and is enjoyed by several thousand fans each year. This year’s event is being sponsored by
Fighter’s registrations are now being accepted for the very popular event that is a single elimination boxing tournament, open to area men and women, age 18 to 35, with no pro fights and limited amateur experience. MMA fighters are welcome. All bouts are scheduled for three, one minute rounds, with all fighters wearing 16 ounce gloves, protective headgear and a mouth piece. All applicants MUST be in good physical condition. The weight divisions for men and women are: Lightweight (up to 139lbs) Middleweight (140-159lbs), Light heavyweight (160-184lbs) and Heavyweight (185-400lbs). There is NO Entry fee!
This year’s event will also feature two professional light heavyweight bouts. Friday November 9th Jason Smith (5-1 3 KO’s) of Logan, WV will fight a four (4) round bout versus an opponent yet to be named. Then on Saturday November 10th Daniel Hensley (6-0) of Chapmanville will fight a four (4) round bout versus an opponent yet to be named also. Both Smith and Hensley are former Toughman Champions.
Up to $12,000.00 in prize monies will be awarded. The champion in each weight class will receive up to $1,000 and the runners up will each receive up to $300. In addition each champion will receive a Toughman jacket. Each weight class runner up will receive a trophy or plaque.
The Ring Girls will share a total of $1,600 in cash prize monies, with Miss Ring Girl receiving $1,000 cash, a Toughman jacket and various other prizes. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd runners up will each receive $200, plus additional prizes. The event is sanctioned and will be supervised by the West Virginia State Athletic Commission. Tickets go on sale October 20th.
