LOGAN, W. Va, - The Tug Valley High School Lady Panthers last week played in the West Virginia Class AA Region 4, Section 2 Girls Basketball tournament at the Logan Memorial Fieldhouse. On the first night of the tournament, the Lady Panthers took on the Lady Tigers from Chapmanville and won 58 to 46. The game was a close one in the first half with both teams matching one another almost point for point. In fact, at the end of the frame the difference in scoring was only one point with Tug Valley leading 16 to 15. The second quarter was even more neck and neck as neither team wanted to give any leeway to the other. Both teams scored 11 points in the period to make the halftime score Tug Valley 27, Chapmanville 26. Coming out in the third quarter, while each team may have made minor adjustments, they seemed to have no effect as the teams stayed right with each other. The Panthers scored 10 in the frame while the Tigers scored 9 which kept the Tug Valley lead at 2 points, 37 to 35 going into the final stanza. In the fourth period, the score widened due to a plethora of foul shots taken by both teams and the difference being found in who hit them and who didnt. Chapmanville hit 4 of 14 from th eline in the period while Tug Valley hit 7 of 12 from the charity stripe. Thus the Panthers outscored the Lady Lions 21 to 11 in the period and stretched the overall lead to 12 point to win the game. TVHSs Tabby Mounts led all scorers with 17 points while Lydia Vance led the Lady Lions with 14.
