PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Only four of the 24 restaurants and other eating places inspected by the Pike County Health Department in January made perfect scores, but all of the group complied with health department guidelines.

The health department said that Holiday Inn Express on South Mayo Trail; Dollar General store on Thompson Road; Sher-ry’s Candy Kitchen on Division Street, and Landmark Inn Bar, Pike-ville, made scores of 100 percent.

Earning scores slightly below them were Edible Fruit Arrangements, Belfry, Ky., and Family Dollar Store, Phelps, each with a score of 99 percent; and Dollar General on North Mayo Trail and Hampton Inn Continental Bar, Pikeville, each with a 98 percent score.

Although in compliance with guidelines, some eating establishments had markdowns on scores because of certain conditions or practices that are considered potentially serious threats to the public’s health. These require correction within 10 days. An asterisk (*) before the restaurant’s score denotes such deficiencies.

Dollar General Store, Phelps, *90 percent (outdated medicines on shelf at time of inspection)’ Arby’s Restaurant, Cassidy Blvd., 97 percent; Dollar General Store, Zebulon Hwy., *92 percent (outdated medicines on shelf at time of inspection (corrected); Hardees Restaurant, Pike-ville, *89 percent (blades on cole slaw shredder not clean - recently used but interior parts not cleaned).

El Ponchos, South Mayo Trail, 96 percent; La Mesa Grande, Elkhorn City, *91 percent (Raid bug killer stored next to potatoes, Windex stored next to single service utensils - corrected at time of inspection); J-Mart, Douglas Parkway, 95 percent; Pikeville OTB, Pikeville, 96 percent; Mark II, Pikeville, 98 percent; and Speedway Cafe, Majestic, 93 percent.
