Three people were arrested and charged on August 26th following a call from the Best Western in Chapmanville.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Chapmanville Police Department Cpl. N.D. Tucker, a call was received via cell phone “from Best Western stating there were possible prostitution activity” in room 210.

After officers arrived at the motel, they were advised by the front desk that two females had just left the room and were walking down the stairs. Officers confronted the two females, identified in the complaint as Diana M. Hairston and Jennifer Jarrell. Tucker states that “it is advised that Mrs. Hairston did have 1.9 grams of crack cocaine in her possession.” Tucker received permission from Hairston to search her person and the “above mention crack fell out from her bra.”

Following Hairston’s arrest, officers escorted her back to room 210. Outside the door, officers allegedly smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the room. Tucker states that he “observed a clear bag containing white chunks later identified as crack cocaine.”

After further investigation, Tucker, Deputy D.E. Brown, and West Virginia State Troopers R.A. Jones and B.A. Lowe found the crack cocaine to be in the amount of 18.2 grams. Officers also allegedly found “$1,265 in US currency beside the crack, one set of digital scales, eight “Roxy” 30s and 15 grams of marijuana.”

Deputy Brown also found $272 and one marijuana joint on Dwight D. Davenport. The complaint states that Mrs. Hairston also “stated that she exchanged sex for crack” and all defendants stated the cash wasn’t theirs.
