MADISON - It was another night at the fights last Friday at the Madison Civic Center as King of the Coal Fields III was held.
The previous two events — the last one in June — took place at Logan High School’s Willie Akers Arena.
One of the highlights of the night was when Breeden’s Austin “Speedy” Marcum won with a second-round TKO over Mike Arnold to improve to 2-1. Marcum is a former 2011 Logan Area Toughman champion and had come to Logan in June and had won his first fight as a pro.
In another main event, Madison’s Zack Kuhn (5-1) won in a ananimous decision over David Huffman to extend his fight winning streak to four.
Warren Browning of Mingo County defeated Ohio boxing veteran Cullen Rogers with a second-round TKO to improve to 16-2 in his professional career.
Also, Coy Witt beat Tierre King in a unanimous decision to go to 2-0.
Justin Novaria, a boxer from Zanesville, Ohio, defeated Jason Harbin by first-round TKO for his first ever win as a pro.
Chris Jones of Madison then beat Ron Kirkpatrick by unanimous decision to improve to 4-0.
Chris Smith then beat Dustin Carroll by first-round KO to improve to 5-1. This was Smith’s comeback fight after seven years away from the sport.
Organizers of the boxing event, Black Eye Promotions out of Madison, plan on having King of the Coal Fields IV on Aug. 25 at the Madison Civic Center.
