Frankie Smith basketball camp

Mingo Central head boy’s basketball coach Frankie Smith will be holding a youth basketball camp from Monday, July 16 to Wednesday, July 19.

It will be for both boys and girls. The first session will be entering kindergarten to the 4th grade from 9 a.m. to12 noon. Then those entering grades 5^th through the 7^th grades will be from 1- 4 p.m.

Because of the new WVSSAC rule, those players entering the 8^th grade cannot attend the camp. No high school players are allowed to participate either.

On the 19th everyone will attend the camp from 9-12 for the awards and “Final Show” for the parents.

Awards will be given out daily. The cost of the camp is $40. T-shirts will be given to each camp participant.

MSN will broadcast Senior Bowl

RED JACKET - The Miners Sports Network (MSN) is announcing it will carry the 2012 Hatfield-McCoy Bowl Game, live on the web, via Ustream on Saturday, July 28th.

MSN is the official media outlet of all Mingo Central athletics and broadcasted all home football games last season for the Miners. Both Pre-Game and Post-Game shows are planned. The broadcast is scheduled to start promptly at 7:30 pm and conclude 30 minutes after the end of the game. Several guests are to be featured throughout parts of the game including coaches, players, and community leaders. The broadcast will be in Full HD and

Madsen on Rimington list

MORGANTOWN - West Virginia University’s Joe Madsen has been named to the Rimington Trophy watch list. Madsen, a 6-foot-4, 310-pound senior from Chadron, Ohio, is one of 51 nominees on the list for the most outstanding center in the Football Bowl Subdivision of college football.

Other notable nominees include Eloy Atkinson of UTEP, Tulsa’s Trent Dupy, B.J. Finney of Kansas State, TCU’s James Fry, Ben Habern of Oklahoma, SMU’s Blake McJunkin, Austin Quattrochi of Southern Miss and UCF’s Jordan Rae.

Bitancurt on Groza List

MORGANTOWN - Tyler Bitancurt has been named to the Lou Groza watch list.

The award will be presented by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.

Bitancurt was a 2011 Groza semifinalist with double-figure scoring in games seven times, including a bowl record 10-10 extra point attempts against Clemson in the Orange Bowl. He led all Big East players in scoring last season and ranks fifth on WVU’s all-time kick scoring list with 260 career points.
