Former WVU Mountaineer and Glenville State quarterback Jed Drenning has published a nice pre-season college football magazine dubbed The Signal Caller.com.
Drenning is now in his fourth season with the Mountaineer Sports Network as its sideline reporter on West Virginia football broadcasts.
Drenning is no stranger to football in the Mountain State. He was a two-time all-State quarterback at Tucker County High School, where he led the Mountain Lions to two Class A state title game appearances, and was named the Kennedy Award recipient from the West Virginia Sport Writers Association as the state’s top prep player.
The 2012 edition of the Signal Caller focuses on WVU’s first season in the Big 12 Conference.
The publication has good articles from Drenning, John Antonik, Ben Kercheval, Mike Montoro, Tony Caridi and others.
The magazine is published in-state at Victory Marketing in Belington, W.Va. The cover has WVU quarterback Geno Smith, wide receiver Stedman Bailey and all-purpose back Tavon Austin.
One article discusses all of the records Smith, Austin and Bailey broke last season and the ones that are in danger of being broken this season.
Another article by Ben Tramel of the Oklahoman is titled “A Bold New Frontier” and welcomes WVU in the Big 12 and what they can expect playing in places like Stillwater, Lubbock and other destinations.
There is discussion about the changes in the conference with the edition of West Virginia and TCU and the exit of Missouri and Texas A & M.
There is also an interview with 2nd year Mountaineer head coach Dan Holgorsen.
Drenning has picked his top 25 and has WVU coming in at No. 6 in his pre-season poll.
The magazine also profiles all of the 10 Big 12 teams and previews each squad and some of the top players in the league.
It also has a Big 12 travel guide, listing the miles to each location from Waco, Texas, to Manhattan, Kansas to Ames, Iowa.
