The Pike County Health Department’s released its restaurant inspections from April, with four establishments having a perfect score and only one eatery being scheduled for a follow-up.
Pizza Hut in South Williamson, Ky., came away with the lowest score - 80 percent. Its critical items were:
• Spit cup stored on shelf over prep sink next to pizza pan lids;
• Food items on make table range from 59-66 degrees;
• No logs to provide time when food went out of temperature.
The health department normally inspects restaurants and other eating establishments twice a year, checking food storage, preparations, personnel, rest-rooms, water and other health conditions.
The scores follow a 0-100 percent scale, with 100 being perfect. Points are subtracted if violations are found.
• A score of 85 to 100 percent indicates compliance with health department guidelines;
• 70 to 84 percent means the establishment must be reinspected within 30 days. If problems have not been corrected, closure is possible;
• 60 to 69 percent gives the establishment five days to request a hearing to show why it should be allowed to continue operations;
• 59 percent and lower means an automatic and immediate closing if conditions pose an immediate health risk to the public.
Certain conditions and practices are considered potentially serious threats to to the public’s health and require correction within 10 days. Asterisks next to the score indicates such deficiencies.
