BETSY LAYNE, Ky. – The Lady Pirates of Belfry swept a doubleheader Thursday with road wins over Belfry Layne and South Floyd.
Belfry beat South Floyd in the opener 15-5 in five innings and then topped the host Lady Bobcats 17-11 in a slugfest.
Brooke Williamson picked up both wins inside the pitching circle for coach Ryan Chapman’s squad.
In the win at South Floyd, Betsy Layne pitchers gave up an unbelievable 21 walks to Belfry batters, which allowed the Lady Pirates to score most of their runs. The lone Belfry hit was by Kacey Tackett, which brought in two runs.
In the nightcap, Belfry was able to put the bat on the ball with Sydni Bogar leading the way with three hits, including a double, two RBIs and she scored four runs.
Williamson also had three hits including her 12th triple of the season. She helped her own cause with three RBIs. Brooke Branham added two hits and an RBI, while Tackett also had an RBI single. Bethann Wallen and Ashley Miller each had an RBI for Belfry.
Belfry improved its season record to 21-11, while South Floyd dropped to 8-14 and Betsy Layne is not 5-19.
