WILLIAMSON – Anyone that has a heart will experience a difficult time when they visit an animal shelter and look into the sad eyes of those pets who were discarded, no longer wanted or simply left by the side of the road.

Thanks to the efforts of the Mingo County Commission, Mingo County Animal Control and Lee Ann Ray, Grant Writer and Project Manager for the county, a number of those canines who were scheduled to take that long walk down a dark hallway to never return now have a second chance to be loved.

According to a press release from Ray, humans looking for canine companionship will have an opportunity to give a deserving dog a home this week during an adoption fair.

The Mingo County Animal Control Facility (MCACF) will open its doors to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, May 11, in an attempt to find permanent homes for stray or abandoned dogs that have made their way to the facility.

Among the dogs available for adoption are several hound dogs, mix breed dogs and a full-blooded American Bulldog affectionately known as Sarge.

Sarge is neutered and very affectionate. He would make a great family pet, but requires a fenced yard because he doesn’t like all-terrain vehicles and has a tendency to chase them.

The adoption fee is $25 and includes spay/neuter, first vaccinations and a county dog tag.

For more information about the dogs available for adoption or directions to the facility, call (304) 235-0252.
