HAZARD, Ky. – the Belfry Pirates baseball team split a pair of games in the Hazard tournament this past weekend.
Belfry 12, George Rogers Clark 4
The Pirates won their 8th straight game Friday night over George Rogers Clark by jumping out to an early lead and not looking back.
BHS started the 1st inning with four straight singles by Howie Dotson, Zack Francisco, Tyler Williams and Joey Duty. Williams and Duty both had an RBI with their base hits.
In the Belfry second, Keegan Fields was hit by a pitch leading off inning and was sacrificed to second by Madison Ghormley. Fields then scored on double by Reed Williamson, who scored on single by Dotson.
In the Belfry 4th Williams singled and Eli Huddle came in as a courtesy runner. He stole second base and advanced to third base on a Duty single. He then scored on sacrifice fly by Zac Fields.
Belfry continuing it scoring onslaught in the 6th frame. Williams walked, Duty reached on an error by the third baseman, Zac Fields was safe on fielder choice after a sacrifice bunt attempt. Keegan Fields then singled in Williams. Ghormley singled in Cameron Johnson, who was a pinch runner for Duty. Zac Fields then scored the fourth run on another GRC error.
In the BHS 7th inning Francisco led off with a walk, Williams singled and then Zac Fields smashed a 3-run homer over the left center fence.
Williams was the winning pitcher with a complete game 10-hitter, with 5 K’s and two walks.The win improved BHS to 17-6 on the season.
Hazard 8, Belfry 1
Hazard got to Belfry starter Jared Masters early as the Bulldogs rolled past the Pirates 8-1 on Saturday.
Belfry’s only run came in the 4th inning when Francisco singled and scored on 2-out single by Duty. The Pirates dropped to 8-1 for the season.
