NAUGATUCK – Westside traveled into Mingo County and caged the Tug Valley Panthers 14-6 in baseball action Monday evening at Naugatuck.
Westside jumped ahead with three runs in the first. Tug Valley added one run in the bottom of the 1st frame and four runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning to cut the lead to 6-5.
Then the visitors rallied for six more runs in the top of the 4th inning and added a couple of insurance runs later in the game to pull away.
Leadoff hitter Tyler Lucas and Kevin Brown led Tug Valley with three hits each. Both scored two runs for the Panthers. Jordon Mounts continued his torrid hitting pace with two more hits. The junior continues to have a batting average over .500.
David Runyon, Gabe Varney and Chuckie White each had a base hit.
Zack Baize was the starting pitcher for the Panthers. He gave up six runs. Varney and Mounts both came into the game in relief. Both gave up four runs. Varney took the loss.
Brayer Morgan got the win on the mound for Westside.
