The University of Pikeville’s chapter of Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) recently earned top honors, garnering several awards in academic competition during the Kentucky spring leadership conference held in March at Northern Kentucky University.

PBL members throughout the state participated in workshops, academic competitions and election of state officers. Students who finished in first or second places in the academic competitions qualified to compete at the Phi Beta Lambda national leadership conference in San Antonio, Texas, in June.

Ricki Maynard and Jessica Huffman, students, both of Pikeville, Ky., will represent their college in the national competition, which will feature participants from all 50 states and the U.S. territories. Maynard finished in first place in the telecommunications event and Huffman finished second in marketing concepts.

Danielle Dials, of Paintsville, Ky., Tyler Hazelett, of Pikeville and Sarah Hunt of Mouthcard, Ky., also participated in the statewide competition.

The chapter also received a second place award for fund-raising efforts in support of the March of Dimes, a national service project for PBL.
