Errors sink Lady Pirates

GOODY, Ky. – The Belfry Lady Pirates committed nine errors in a 12-8 home loss to visiting Paintsville Monday night.

“If you score eight runs you should be able to win,” BHS coach Ryan Chapman said. “You can’t play this kind of defense and expect to be a good team.”

Brooke Williamson was the hard luck losing pitcher for Belfry. M. LeMaster was the winning pitcher for Paintsville.

Kacey Tackett was 3-for-4 with three singles and four RBIs to lead the Lady Pirates at the plate. Senior Brooke Branham had a triple and single with two RBIs. Sydney Bogar and Williamson also had base hits for BHS. The loss dropped Belfry to 12-8 on the season.

Lady Pirates lose to East Ridge

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – East Ridge avenged an earlier season loss to Belfry on Friday as they topped the Lady Pirates 5-1 in a tournament held at Pikeville High School.

Belfry’s only run came with one out in the third inning when pitcher Brooke Williamson singled, stole second, and advanced to 3rd on a wild pitched. Williamson scored on Brooke Branham sac fly to center.

East Ridge scored two in the 3rd frame, which turned out to be enough runs to win the game. They added a run in the 4tha dn two more in the 6th inning.

The loss gave Belfry an 11-6 record, while East Ridge is at 7-3. Williamson took the loss for the Lady Pirates, while Christian Yates won the game on a 2-hitter for the Lady Warriors.

Ashley Miller got the other BHS hit. Belfry also lost 6-3, but defeated Johnson Central 2-1 in Lyndel Potter Memorial Tournament played at Pikeville over the weekend. No details of those two games were available.
