MAN - The Mingo Central boy’s tennis team ran their record back over .500 with a win over Man on Thursday.

The matches were as follows: Jason May losing 1- 8, Zak Roberts won 8- 6, Julius Hatcher, IV won 8-5, and Kyle Surber won 8-3 all singles matches.

May and Hatcher, and Roberts and Surber each won their doubles matches 8- 6 and 8-3.

The big news of the evening came from the girls matches. Miranda Collins became the first Lady Miner to win a match defeating Brandi Albright in an exciting singles match 8-6, according to head coach Julius “Boo” Hatcher. However, the girls lost the match, this was a big jump in their improvement. “We’re still looking for their first team win,” Hatcher said of the Mingo Central girls. “We’re elated with Collins’ win.”

The Miners boys dropped to 3 and 3 on the season this past Wednesday against and experienced Chapmanville team. May, Roberts, Surber and Hatcher all lost singles matches.

In doubles play, May and Hatcher lost 4-8, while Roberts and Surber lost a hard fought match 6-8.

The MCHS Girls were shutout in all of their matches against the Tigers. Sarah Fields, Collins, Emily Hatfield, and Jessica Hall lost in singles matches; while Collins and Hatfield, Fields and Hall, and Taylor Blevins and Brittney Evans lost their doubles matches.

The girl’s season team record is at 0 and 6.
