MAN - Man High School sophomore pitcher Madison Keffer fired a two-hit shutout and struck out 17 batters as the Lady Billies’ softball team defeated the Mingo Central Lady Miners 4-0 on Tuesday night at the Man softball field.
Keffer had a no-hitter heading into the seventh inning when Kaitlyn Lester led off with a single. Jenna Bandy had Mingo Central’s other hit of the game, but both were stranded on base as Keffer came away with the shutout win.
Man got all the runs they would need in the bottom of the first inning as Keffer scored on a fielder’s choice to make it 1-0 off Mingo Central hurler Lester.
The Lady Billies got two big insurance runs in the home half of the third frame off Lester. Emilee Osborne had the big hit for the Lady Billies in the frame.
Man then got two more runs in the home half of the third inning to make it 3-0. Keffer helped her own cause with an RBI in the inning.
The Lady Billies got their final run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning as Elizabeth Dickerson had a solid single and then scored on an RBI single off the bat of Summer Sword to make it 4-0.
MCHS split a doubleheader earlier in the week against Tolsia in game played at Delbarton.
The Lady Miners won the first game in the 6th inning by mercy rule 21 to 11, with Lester as the winning pitcher. They lost the second game in 13 to 11. No other details were sent on the games.
