WILLIAMSON - Conducting a thorough investigation that included checking the driver’s license of a passenger in a vehicle pulled over for a traffic stop yielded the arrest of a Tennessee parole violator that was listed as a fugitive from justice with the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).

Shortly after midnight in the early morning hours of Easter Sunday, Mingo County Sheriff’s Department Deputy M.J. Miller conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling down Second Avenue in the City of Williamson.

After verifying the driver was operating the car on an expired license, Miller ran a check on the passenger’s driver’s license to verify it was valid before releasing the vehicle to him. The deputy was quickly informed by a Mingo County 911 dispatcher that the passenger was a fugitive from justice out of the State of Tennessee.

Anthony Gooslin, 22, whose address is listed as McCarr, Ky., was convicted of drug related crimes in Sullivan County, Tenn., including possession of controlled substances (heroin and marijuana). He was placed on parole and did not abide by the guidelines and rules stipulated as conditions of his release, and a warrant for his arrest was issued.

Gooslin allegedly fled the state and was entered in the NCIC system as a fugitive from justice. According to information the defendant provided Miller, he has been residing in Kentucky since leaving Tennessee.

Gooslin was arraigned before Magistrate Dallas Toler and is scheduled to appear before Circuit Court Judge Michael Thornsbury on the fugitive from justice charge. The defendant was remanded to the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden, where he will remain without bond until law enforcement officials from Tennessee arrive to extradite him back to Sullivan County to face the charges against him.
