St. Joe slips past Tug Valley

HUNTINGTON – Tug Valley hit the road for a spring break baseball game, but came up on the short end with an 8-6 loss to Huntington St. Joe.

The Panthers scored three runs in the 1st inning, two in the 2nd and one in the third frame and took a 6-3 lead. But Tug Valley could not hold on, giving up three runs in the 5th and another in the 6th against the home team.

Gabriel Varney led the Panthers with three hits, while Jordon Mounts and Trevin Horn each had a pair of hits. Chuckie White and David Runyon each added a base hit. One of Varney’s hit was a double. White had a pair of RBIs for TVHS.

White, Varney and Zack Baize all saw action on the mound for TVHS and head coach Jeff Varney. Tug Valley committed seven errors, which hurt the pitching staff.

Torin Walters, Paul Dransfels, Anthony Rabel and Josh Pierson all had two hits for St. Joe. Walters is the son of WHS graduate Dr. Torin Walters. Michael Mayes was the winning pitcher for St. Joe.
