I was a very young girl at the time of the flood, around 5 or 6.
We lived behind the West Virginia State Police station in East Williamson. I remember my dad, Randall Austin, driving the high back roads. He was saving or helpings family members, friends and most everyone he could find. He was helping them get to higher ground. I remember my mom, LaDonna Austin, and my dad talking.
My little brother and I went down to see the high water. I can still remember seeing cows and other various animals, along with pieces of houses and cars floating by. I remember being amazed at being unable to see the big trains my dad operated.
Although I’m much older now, I can still remember it like it was yesterday.
