MYRTLE - A Chapmanville resident was fatally injured Sunday morning in a one vehicle accident near the community of Myrtle, on U.S. 119.
According to information received from Mingo County Sheriff’s Department Chief Field Deputy James Smith, Deputy M. Miller was dispatched at approximately 7:45 a.m. to a report of a vehicle flipped on its top in the south bound lane of U.S. 119, near the Twins Branch exit.
Upon arrival, Miller stated that he discovered the sole occupant of the 1996 Ford Ranger had been ejected from the vehicle and was unresponsive.
She was identified as Corrina L. Scott, 34, of Chapmanville.
Eyewitnesses said that Scott allegedly lost control of the vehicle while traveling from the Logan County area, swerved across the median into oncoming traffic, and apparently overcompensated and cut the wheels back toward the southbound lane. She then proceeded to flip the vehicle numerous times, coming to rest on its top.
During the process of the vehicle flipping, Scott, who was not restrained by a seat belt, was ejected.
STAT Ambulance transported the patient to the Logan Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. Smith stated that his department is awaiting final reports on the exact cause of her death, and also has requested the toxicology reports. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
The Lenore Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene and provided assistance with patient care and accident clean-up.
