Essie Bevins

Essie Thacker Bevins, 87, of Burnwell, Ky., passed away Friday January 6, 2012, at the South Williamson Appalachian Hospital.

She was born March 23, 1924, at Millard, Ky., to the late Elisha and Annie Kendrick Thacker.

She is also preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Bevins; five brothers, Otis Thacker, Hastell Thacker, Owen Thacker, Roy Thacker and Ireland Thacker; three sisters, Hazel Deskins, Bertha Coleman and Gladys Holt.

She was a church member, a mother and a grandmother.

She is survived by five sons, Olbie (Patricia) Bevins of Aflex, Ky., Gregory (Teresa) Bevins of Burnwell, Ky., Trenton (Arminda) Bevins of Burnwell, Ky., Troy (Clara) Bevins of Burnwell, Ky., and Jerry D. (Donna) Bevins of Corbin, Ky.; two stepchildren, Laura (Leon) Bevins of Defiance, Ohio and Frances (Chad) Bell of Arizona; one brother, Otto Thacker of Raccoon, Ky.; 14 grandchildren, Kenneth (Jacklyn) Bevins, Lisa (Billy) Lockard, Mike (Misty) Bevins, Keith (Connie) Bevins, Angie (Mike) Taylor, Kim (Shawn) Christian, Kent (Mary) Bevins, Greta Bevins, Sherry (Jeff) Delong, Tommy (Angel) Bevins, Melissa (Richard) Mullins, Chase (Lindsey) Bevins, Davin Bevins and Leah Bevins; 21 great-grandchildren, Kendra Bevins, Jack Bevins, Jacob Lockard, Jordyn Lockard, Hannah Lockard, Sarah Bevins, Breanna Bevins, Tyler Taylor, Summer Taylor, Kayla Christian, Ethan Christian, Katelyn Bevins, Matthew Bevins, Megan Bevins, Daniel Mullins, Makayla Mulllins, Rebecca Mulllins, Teresa Delong, Kasey Delong, Landon Delong and Holly Bevins, two care givers; Kim Christian and Myrtle Carraway; and a host of loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday January 10, at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with John Victor McCoy officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky., with Kenneth Bevins, Keith Bevins, Mike Bevins, Kent Bevins, Tommy Bevins, Chase Bevins and Davin Bevins serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Sunday and Monday night at the funeral home.

Helen Fullen

Helen S. Fullen, 84, of Matewan, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 2, 2012, from the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born April 14, 1927, in Saltville, Va., the daughter of the late John and Mary Brown.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by daughter in law Sue Fullen and son in law Ronald Blackwell

In addition to being a loving mother and grandmother, Helen was a Veteran of the army of the Lord having served as a faithful member of the 2nd Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Williamson and was very active in her church until death.

She leaves to honor her loving memory and mourn her passing, sons Johnny and Steven Fullen of Matewan; daughters, Mary Blackwell of Dallas, Texas; Donzella Fullen of Charleston; Nora Artis of Florida; Patricia Brown, of Matewan; grandchildren, Francine, George, Shauna, Amber, Bethany, Ronda, Tia; great-grandchildren, Olivia, DeAndria,Victoria,Celeste, Jamal, Melek, Alexis, and Mary Helen; Helen is also survived by a special aunt, Lydia Fullen; and special cousins, Jessie and George Fullen.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In honoring the request of Helen, private services were held with the Rev. Frank Jones officiating.
