Max Preps was listed in the Daily News last week and this week - Tailgate Central.

TGC ranked Tug Valley in first place in class AA and Mingo Central is eighth. However, this poll is deceptive as the Panthers have only played one game so far this season while the Miners have six games under their belt.

Tug defeated Westside 65-54 on Dec. 16 and hasn’t played a game since. The Panthers are expected to be ranked near the top but a true poll cannot really be determined until TV has a few more games in the W/L column.

The Panthers are back in action tonight at Belfry High School in the Mountain Schoolboy Classic against Harlan, Ky. The Valley will face Scott on Dec. 28 and then will battle Belfry on Dec. 29.

Tug will not be at home until Jan. 17 with the much-awaited contest against Mingo Central.

The Miners have lost only one contest this season. Hurley, Va. beat Mingo 60-59 in overtime on Dec. 10 - Mingo’s second game on the schedule. Central recently won their fifth game over class 3A Chapmanville 76-68 in the Bob Runyon Memorial Tournament on the Tigers’ homecourt.

The Miners will host their own holiday tournament beginning this evening through Dec. 28. The Runyon Insurance Classic will see River View vs. Tolsia in game one tonight at 6 p.m. with Mingo following at 8 p.m. against Mount View. The winners of the two games will square off on Dec. 28 at 8 p.m. for the championship game with a consolation game at 6 p.m.

Tailgate Central bases their rankings on home/away wins and margin of victory.

1. Tug Valley 1-0

2. Bluefield 5-0

3. Sissonville 4-0

4. Weir 3-0

5. Pt. Pleasant 3-0

6. Magnolia 3-0

7. Ravenswood 2-0

8. Mingo Central 5-1

9. Liberty-Raleigh 3-1

10. Oak Hill 2-1
