Robert Belcher

Robert Lee Belcher, 50, of Bessemer City, N.C., formerly of North Matewan, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2011, at the Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, N.C.

Born July 28, 1961, in Williamson, he was the son of Jordan Belcher of North Matewan, and the late Ethel Blankenship Belcher.

In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by a brother James Belcher.

He was a former carnival man.

Survivors, in addition to his father, include his companion, Jackie Patrick of Bessemer City; one brother, Jordan (Mary) Belcher Jr. of Newtown; three sisters, Debbie (Melvin) Hurley of Hatfield, Ky., Rhonda (Carl) Chapman of Crouse, N.C., and Donna (Chris) Casey of Freeburn, Ky.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, December 29, at noon from the Newtown Free Pentecostal Church of God at Newtown, with Randy Casey and Chris Casey officiating. Burial will follow in the Blankenship Cemetery at Stopover, Ky., with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Newtown Free Pentecostal Church with special services nightly at 7 p.m.

Elta Duty

Elta Mae Duty, 76, of Elk Creek, passed December 24, 2011, at the UK Medical Center in Lexington, Ky.

She was born June 4, 1935, at Elk Creek, the daughter of the late Luther and Bessie Mae White Wellman.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Savage Duty; and a brother, Chester Wellman.

Mrs. Duty was formerly employed by the Williamson Memorial Hospital as a nurses aid. She was a member of the America United Baptist Church.

Her survivors include daughters, Dolly Duty of Williamson, Ollie (Chris) Dudley of Pickerington, Ohio, Roberta (Tommy) Greene of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., Donna Duty of Westland, Mich.; brothers, Ray Wellman of Columbus, Ohio, and Luther “Buddy” (Diane) Wellman of Elk Creek; sisters, Joy (Raymond) Cloney of Elk Creek, and Ruby (Earl) Greer of Bassett, Va.; grandchildren, Chris Matthew Dudley and Lacey Schultz.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday December 28, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Benny Fitch officiating at the Chafin Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Duty Cemetery at Elk Creek. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday evening. Pallbearers will be Leo Walker, David Baisden, Benny Fitch, Tommy Green, Chris Dudley and Chris M. Dudley.

Roberta Duty

Roberta Duty, 66, of Grove City, Ohio, formerly of Ragland, passed away December 25, 2011, at her home in Grove City.

She was born July 6, 1945, at Ragland, the daughter of the late Charlie W. and Mary Diamond Duty.

She was also preceded in death by brothers, Roy Duty and Raymond Duty.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Rockhouse Freewill Baptist.

Roberta is survived by her brother, C. W. Jr. (Kay) Duty of Wapokenta, Ohio; sisters, Ruth Shannon of Willis, Texas, Ruby Farley of McCarr, Ky., Velva Burke of Sherwood, Ohio, Pat Chafin of Rome, Ga., Margie (R.L.) Farley of Hardy, Ky., and Corena Stabnau of Belleville, Mich.

Funeral services will be held at the Chafin Funeral Home Chapel Friday December 30, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Lewis Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Duty Cemetery at Ragland. Visitation will be at the funeral home chapel from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday evening.

Sally Grace

Sally (McCoy) Grace, 50, of Louisa, Ky., formerly of Hatfield, Ky., passed away Friday, December 23, 2011, at the Pikeville Medical Center following a long battle with colon cancer.

Born September 3, 1961, at Logan, she was the daughter of the late Delman and Ollie Mae Gillman McCoy.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two nephews, Brian Christopher McCoy and Delman McCoy III; and a sister- in-law, Brenda (Duncan) McCoy.

Survivors include her husband, Blain Terry Grace; four sisters, Mary Alice (Don) Givens, Lummie (Robert) Rogers, Diana (Charles) Williamson, and Delma (W.T.) Thomas; four brothers, John (Rachel) McCoy, Delman “Cheyanne” (Teresa) McCoy, Devada Mccoy, and James (Lisa) McCoy; 20 nieces and nephews; 22 great-nieces and nephews; and one great-great-nephew.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, December 29, at noon from the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, Ky., with Elder Eddie Layne officiating. Burial will follow in the McCoy Cemetery on Day Star Road, Delbarton, with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home with a special service at 7 p.m.

Medeana Hendershot

Medeana Rashlle Hendershot, 22, of Surfside Beach, S.C. formerly of Sidney, Ky., passed away Saturday, December 10, 2011, in Lakeland, Fla.

She was born July 6, 1989, at Charleston, the daughter of Larry William Hendershot and Brenda Sue Smith of Surfside Beach.

Medeana was a free spirit, she loved to travel and help people.

Other than her parents, she is survived by three sons, Dominick DePasquale, Willow Moon Hendershot and Easten Chance; sister, Tiffany Marie Cantrell of McVeigh, Ky.; grandmother, Linda Lou Owens of Sidney, Ky.; and a host of other family and friends.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, December 28, at 1 p.m. at the McVeigh United Baptist Church with James Justice officiating. Burial will be in the Smith Family Cemetery, Road Fork, Sidney. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
