US 23 accident kills one, injures another

PIKEVILLE, Ky. - A man was killed and a woman was injured after an early evening accident Wednesday.

The Pikeville Police Department said that at 5:34 p.m., they received a call in reference to a two-vehicle collision on U.S. 23 in front of Northpoint Academy on the North Mayo Trail.

A preliminary investigation shows that a blue 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo traveling north on U.S. 23 crossed into the southbound lanes and struck a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The driver of the Monte Carlo was Cletis Brandon Boyd, who was pronounced dead on the scene by Deputy Coroner Zeb Hampton.

Angie Casey, who was driving the Grand Cherokee, was transported to Pikeville Medical Center by Pikeville Fire and EMS.

As of presstime, no information has been released on the condition of Casey. Nor was there any information on ages or hometowns for either victim.

The accident remains under investigation by Bruce Collins, II, of the Pikeville Police Department.

The Pikeville Police Department and Pikeville Fire Department were assisted on scene by Kentucky State Police, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Coal Run Police Department and Coal Run Fire Department.
