Dorothy Gilman Clay ‘Easter’, 80, of Olathe, Kansas, beloved mother, died on January 8, 2009. Dorothy died peacefully at Olathe Medical Center and was surrounded by family and close friends. Dorothy was born on Sunday, April 8, 1928 in Lenore, West Virginia to Andrew and Edna (Hall) Gilman. Dorothy grew up in Lenore, West Virginia and graduated from Lenore High School in 1945 continuing her education at Morris Harvey College.

She had an enjoyable career with the Mingo County Board of Education serving as a teacher from 1945 -1953. She also worked for the United States Postal Service as a Postmaster from 1954-1961. Dorothy cherished many long lasting friendships throughout her career with the BOE and USPS. She was a member of the Parsley Bottom Freewill Baptist Church and was also a member of the Eastern Star for 50 years. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was a faithful servant to God.

Dorothy is survived by her Son, Howard Gilman Clay (Olathe) and a sister, Lucretia Butcher (Holden), nieces, nephews, and many other family members and dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Gilman of Lenore and Howard Gilman of Chapmanville and a sister, Martha Evans of Lenore.

The family would like to give special thanks to Olathe Medical Center and their extended staff for the extraordinary care given to Dorothy. Visitation and funeral services will be held at Parsley Bottom Freewill Baptist Church in Lenore with Chafin Funeral Home officiating. Friends may call between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2009. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2009.

Flowers are welcome or you may, in lieu of flowers, make donations to the American Cancer Society and/or the Alzheimer’s Association in the name of Dorothy Gilman Clay.
