The Belfry Lady Pirates will take the field with seasoned players when softball begins March 21.
As reigning 60 District champs, the Pirates are under new command as Ryan Chapman takes over the duties as head coach.
Last year the girls were under the guidance of Kevin Deskins and were 14-17 on the season, defeated in the first round of the 15 Region. The girls were 11-8 in the region and 4-1 in the district during the regular season.
Returning seniors are Alex Howard, Amy McCoy and Whitney May. Also returning is a host of juniors, sophomores and freshmen.
The Lady Bucs will open the season on the road at Johnson Central.
The girls in red and white will participate in the Lyndel Potter Memorial Tournament at Pikeville April 8-9 and are scheduled to close out the season at Prestonsburg May 18 at 6 p.m. Prestonsburg split with the Lady Pirates in the 2010 season while the Bobcats winning 10-9 at home March 26 and losing 9-5 March 27 at Belfry.
If weather permits, the Lady Pirates will play 34 regular season games; 15 at home and 19 on the road
