WILLIAMSON – The Chapmanville Lady Tigers handed Tug Valley its tenth loss 63-49 in the Lady Panthers’ final regular season game Friday night.
The Tigers began on a 10-0 run before Whitney Evans sank a 3-pointer to put TV on the board. Evans ended with a game high 37 points.
Chapmanville outscored the Valley 16-8 in the first quarter but the Panthers got it together in the second to go to the locker rooms at the break down by four 26-22.
"We started a little slow, but then got back in the game,” said TVHS Coach Okey Smith. "We just couldn't match up with their speed on the perimeter. They are the only team we have played against all year that has a big speed advantage against us. Our one bright spot was the play of Whitney Evans. She played an excellent game tonight.”
The Lady Panthers were only down six going into the fourth but were outscored 20-12 in the final quarter.
"We just couldn't run against them and that is the style my girls like to play," Smith said.
Chapmanville had two players in double figures. Jenna Evans had 20 and Kelli Garrett 17.
W. Evans was the only Panther to hit double digits but Elizabeth Evans had six assists, six steals and five rebounds. Amber Linville added five boards and five blocked shots.
Tug finished 11-10 on the season and will open sectional play Feb. 21 at Logan against Wayne.
"We have to get ready for Wayne on Monday, I am sure they (Wayne) will give us their best shot," said Smith.
