After a beating by Westside 72 to 44 Jan. 24, the Tug Valley Lady Panthers took out their frustration on the Mountain Mission 68-24 Jan. 25. on the road.
"We started a little slow, but a two hour bus trip will do that sometimes," said Coach Okey Smith. "I challenged them at the end of the first quarter and they responded with good play in the second and third quarters."
The slow start the coach was talking about was TV up 12 to 9 in the first and went to the locker rooms up 41 to 15.
Lady Panther Desrae Vance scored a double-double with 21 points and 10 boards. Whitney Evans had 17 points and six steals on the night while Elizabeth Evans scraped away with 14 points, seven assists and six steals on defense.
While Paige Runyon didn’t score, she pulled down seven rebounds and Delan Smith had eight for TVHS.
Heron Hailu led Mountain Mission with 10 points.
The Valley came out strong in the second half, scoring 17 points and holding MM to a goose egg in the third. TVHS emptied the bench and finished 10 to 9 in the fourth.
"Mountain Mission was outmanned tonight but, I give them credit they played hard until the final horn," Smith said.
The Lady Panthers is now 7-8 on the season and play Burch at home tonight.
"I think it is great what the people who are running this school are doing for the kids here," stated Smith.
