Mingo Central was well represented on the All-Cardinal Conference teams for 2017 which were released Monday evening.

Junior Jeremy Dillon and freshman Drew Hatfield were both named to the first team. Senior Keshean Rhodes was selected to the second team. Senior Aaron Banks and sophomore Canaan Fletcher were both on the honorable mention list.

The Miners won one of the Class AA, Region 4 co-titles last week to advance to this week’s W.Va. State Tournament at the Charleston Civic Center.

This is only the second time in school history that Mingo Central has made it to the state tournament. However, the school is only six years old after the consolidation of Williamson, Burch, Matewan and Gilbert.

Coach Kevin Hatfield said he is proud of all of the players and the all-conference honors they received.

Dillon averaged 20 points per game and ended up third in the league in scoring behind Poca standout Luke Frampton and Chapmanville’s Drew Williamson. Hatfield averaged 15 points per game and was in the top 20 in scoring in the Cardinal Conference.

Rhodes was the team’s defensive stopper and always has the job of guarding the other teams’ top scorer. His offense picked up late in the season and he is averaging about 10 ppg. and he became one of the top 3-point shooters on the Miners squad.

Fletcher and Banks were steady performers and provided low post defense and rebounding. Fletcher averaged about 10 ppg. Banks started out as the 6th man, but moved his way into the starting lineup and was a steady influence for Mingo Central lineup. Banks averages about 7.0 ppg.
