RAVENSWOOD – Tug Valley lost to Ravenswood 61- 51 in the Class A, Region 4 co-championship game Thursday at the RHS Gym dubbed “The Pit.”
Isaiah Morgan scored 22 points, including five 3-pointers, to pace the Red Devils (22-2) over the Panthers (14-11) in the Class A Region 4 final.
Riley Heatherington added a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds for Ravenswood, which dropped to Class A this season from Class AA the past few years. Stephen Dawson chipped in 10 points.
Tyler May led the Panthers with 16 points, followed by Jonathan Blankenship with 13. Ten of May’s points came in the fourth quarter.
“We played hard and competed. We just went through a couple of bad stretches that we couldn’t overcome,” said Tug Valley head coach Edwyn May.
“When you play good teams, especially on the road, you can’t afford lulls offensively or defensively. I’m proud of our kids for their fight and effort,” he added.
“For the most we part played a pretty good game. Ravenswood is really good, I see them as one of the top three teams in the state tournament and would be surprised if they’re not playing for the championship next Saturday,” May concluded.
The Panthers trailed 35-25 at halftime and 47- 34 heading into the final quarter. Tug Valley made a furious comeback, but couldn’t overcome the deficit and will not make a return trip to the state tournament this year, something the Panther fans have been used to the past few seasons.
