CHARLESTON — On June 17. the South Charleston Community Center will be filled with players taking on last shot on the hard court.

The annual North-South boys’ basketball game will be taking place at the end of the week. Playing for the South will be Tug Valley’s own Calvin Blankenship. Blankenship was a big part of the Panthers success last season. Blankenship and younger brother Johnathan made a tight duo on the basketball court that opposing players had a hard time containing. Johnathan will enter his sophomore season with the Panthers in the fall but Calvin is lacing up for one last game.

Calvin played point guard and shooting guard for the Panthers last season, they made it to another state tournament appearance, it was Calvin’s second state tournament appearance as a Panther. Calvin will face off against Seth Evans, from Tucker County and Chase Harler from Wheeling Central. Blankenship faced both opponents int he state tournament and Wheeling Central went on to win the Class-A state tournament after beating Tug Valley 69-47. Harler had 27 points against the Panthers in their final game.

Blankenship was a perfect fit for the Panthers fast paced offense, he was extremely quick to get the rebound and be heading the other way and he also had the ability to jump. Blankenship threw down two dunks during his senior season. He is fast, strong, and a shooter when he squares up. he will be able to integrate onto any team without much problem.
