GOODY, Ky. — The Pirates give up three runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth to drop the last home game of the regular season.
The Belfry Pirates had a tough showing against the Allen Central Rebels on Tuesday night as the Pirates lost with a final score of 8-5.
The Pirates started off hot with a three run inning in the first. Cameron Catron started off the action with a single, Tyler Fields Followed with a double and Devin Varney capped it all off with a nice RBI single to push Catron across the plate. Garret Fannin and Avery browning followed with RBI’s of their own to give the Pirates a three run lead over the visiting Rebels.
In the second, Nate Sanger was hit by a pitch and awarded his free base, but he stole two more after that. Kaleb Taylor attempted a bunt that caught Sanger off guard and Sanger was thrown out between home and third. Austin Woolum followed with a base hit but the Pirates went cold on offense for the next three innings with only three singles and no scores.
Allen Central scored one run in the first thanks to Kane taylor getting an RBI that knocked in Cameron Blevins but the Pirates stopped the momentum there.
The momentum stopped was young Kaleb Taylor who stepped out of amateur status and provided four strong innings for the Pirates by facing 18 batters with two strikeouts, two walks and only giving up one hit. Colton Cross relieved Taylor in the fifth after Allen Central made their three run inning in the fourth.
The Pirates scored two more runs in the sixth after being down 7-3. All the makings of rally were in play but the Pirates fell short. Austin Lawson pitched all seven innings for the Rebels and ended the game with a strikeout against Devin Varney. Coach Hagy made some adjustments on the field prior to the game by switching long-standing catcher; Tyler Fields, to first base and moving Varney behind the plate. Varney gave a solid performance.
The Pirates have one game left in the regular season as they travel to Pikeville on Thursday to take on the Panthers. Belfry still finished the season as the second seed in the district and will face Pike Central in the opening round. The Location of the 60th District tournament will be announced today and will be announced by this publication after the official press release is announced.
