GILBERT — The Mingo Central Miners won another meeting between the two schools from Mingo and the Miners walked away with a hefty 19-2 victory over the Tug Valley Panthers at the Old Gilbert Baseball Field on Thursday evening.

The weather has been making games hard to get in during the last part of the season but the Miners and the Panthers continued with a storm barreling down. The Miners jumped ahead with a 6-0 lead by the end of the second inning. The Panthers were missing a few key starters and a head coach.

In the first inning the Panthers took the first at bat and actually had the bases loaded with two outs but Mingo Central’s Thomas Harmon got the third out with a strikeout to keep the Panthers from scoring. Mingo Central finished out the first inning by scoring one run. Andrew Allen was knocked in by Josh Murphy on a big RBI double into left field.

In the second Harmon retired the Panthers with three strikeouts. Mingo Central then took advantage and scored five runs. Chase Bentley hit a two-run single into right field and Taylor Thornsbury had a line drive caught in left field but Bentley’s courtesy runner, Cannan Fletcher, was able to score. Kenny Allen had a two-run double to give the Miners five runs.

The Panthers went three batters up and three batters down in the third. The Miners failed to score as well in the third. The Panthers saw Gage Stacy cross the plate in the fourth for their first score of the night but the Miners returned with six scores of their own and followed in the fifth with six scores to bring the total to 19. Zach Samuel scored the remaining run for the Panthers at their last at bat.

The Panthers have had a tough go of it in the last part of the season and unofficial reports say they will face the Man Hillbillies in the first round of sectionals. The Miners will most likely face the Tolsia Rebels in the opening round of sectionals. The Miners were scheduled to play the Phelps Hornets on Wednesday evening but that game was cancelled and rescheduled to May, 11. The Miners will play Wayne tonight at Lefty Hamilton ball park in West End. The Panthers are scheduled to play Scott in the last game of the regular season on May, 2. on the road.

Scores by inning:

Panthers: 0 0 0 1 1 – 2 5 3

Miners: 1 5 0 6 6 – 19 8 3
