GOODY,Ky. – The Belfry Lady Pirates are sailing ahead now with a record of 14-13 after their recent win over the Shelby Valley Lady Kats with a final score of 11-1 at Belfry High School Softball Field on Tuesday evening.
The Lady Pirates took a commanding lead early in the game with a five run inning in the first. The entire Lady Pirates batting order got at least one hit during the game. The hits were flowing and so were the runs when Kyra Stafford started things off with the first run of the game.
Stafford landed on third after a hit deep into the outfield and pitching star, Kendra Gannon, recorded the RBI when a Lady Kat bobbled the ball at third base. Kailee Rash knocked in Gannon and landed safely on first base and Taylor Maynard knocked in Rash to land safely on base. Alex Smith knocked in Maynard and Paula Dotson Knocked in Smith before the Lady Kats could plug the leak.
Shelby Valley didn’t get a score until the third inning when Krista Hampton got a single and scored on a Lady Pirate error. Belfry scored three runs in the third when Smith knocked home Maynard and Kayla Christian knocked in Smith with a triple and then stole home on a wild pitch.
The Lady Pirates continued to score as they got two runs in the fifth inning and one run in the sixth inning. In the fifth inning Emily Deaton got on first and knocked home by Kylea Stanley, and then Gannon knocked in Stanley for the second score.
Maynard scored the last run of the night when Deaton hit one down the middle and landed safely on first.
Gannon battled from the mound for the Lady Pirates and finished the night pitching a four hitter with five strikeouts and one walk. Belfry now sets up top with the top dogs of the region with 14 wins.
Belfry only has eight games left of the regular season, and they won’t return to action again until May, 5. when they travel to Pike Central to take on the Lady Hawks.

PHELPS, Ky. – On Monday the Lady Pirates defeated the Phelps Lady Hornets 10-0. Belfry traveled to Phelps to take a peek at their new field and brought back a victory as a souvenir. During the game; Taylor Maynard, Kendra Gannon and Kayla Christian had doubles accounting for Belfry’s three hits. They walked eight times and were hit by three pitches. Phelps committed four errors.
The Lady Pirates also had a great showing in the third annual Wizard of Oz tournament hosted by Letcher County Central over the weekend. Belfry went 3-1 through the tournament.
Belfry 6, Jenkins 1: Taylor Maynard had two doubles, and three RBI’s. Kayla Christian had two singles.
Clay County 6, Belfry 1: Kylea Stanley had two singles.
Belfry8, Paintsville 0: Kailee Rash had a double, Savannah Wilson had a double, Kendra Gannon had two singles and Taylor Maynard had two singles and one RBI.
Belfry 8, Shelby Valley 1: Taylor Maynard had a home run and a double with three RBI’s, Kailee Rash had three hits with a double and two RBI’s. Kyra Stafford had two singles and one RBI. Savannah Wilson had two singles and an RBI.
