GOODY, Ky. – The Belfry Pirates continued to roll on the baseball diamond as they downed visiting South Floyd 18-5 Monday evening in a 5 inning mercy rule contest at the BHS sports complex.

In the Belfry 1st inning, Garrett Fannin walked and stole second base. Cameron Catron reached on a bunt single and then Colton Cross was hit by a pitch and Austin Fields lined a 2-run single. Cross scored on a wild pitch.

In the second frame Belfry’s Matt Fought singled (Avery Browning came in as a courtesy runner and stole second base). Then Fannin singled and Catron got an RBI from an infield error to bring in another Pirate run. Fields reached safely on another infield error. The Pirates scored two more runs in the rally.

South Floyd was able to plate five runs in the third inning. Blade Slone walked, Hunter Johnson walked and Coach Michael Hagy brought in Nate Sanger to replace Fought on the mound. Matt Davidson had sac fly and Johnson scored on wild pitch. Shawn Kidd, Brant Potter and Kenton Hall all walked, followed by an Austin Preece RBI groundout. Andrew Tackett the cracked an RBI single. The fifth run scored on balk.

Belfry broke the game open in the bottom of the third inning scoring 12 runs. The keys to that rally were a Fought RBI single, a Fields RBI single and an Austin Woolum RBI single. Sanger then added another RBI single for the Pirates and big Austin Dotson smashed an RBI double and Fought smacked another RBI single for BHS.

Fannin then had another RBI single to continue the rally and Browning slashed another 2-run single to cap the big rally.

Catron got the mound win in relief for Coach Hagy and his staff. Hunter Johnson took the loss for the Raiders.

Belfry, now 14-7 on the season, was scheduled to play at Lawrence County on Wednesday in an important district game, weather permitting. Rain was in the forecast for the next couple of days.
