GOODY, Ky – Austin Dotson and the Belfry Pirates were locked into a pitching battle on Tuesday night against Magoffin County who won the game with a final score of 1-0 after seven innings.
Dotson closed the game with only one hit, that hit was a lead off solo home run by Jaden Swords over the left field fence to start off the second period. The rest of the game, Dotson recorded eight strike outs and two walks. Magoffin County’s pitcher, Ryan Mullins gave up four hits, three walks and recorded seven strikeouts.
Tyler Fields and Nate Sanger got on base for the Pirates during the second innings with bunt singles. They made it to second and third from a one out grounder to first. Cameron Catron and Dotson both had one out singles during the sixth inning.
The Pirates move to a record of 6-2. The Pirates are scheduled to play the next four games on the road. They will play Sheldon Clark tonight, Letcher County on Friday, East Ridge on Monday and Pike Central on Tuesday. This loss to Magoffin County signals the Pirates first loss in regional play. The Pirates are ranked second in the 15th Region behind Allen Central who sets comfortable with a record of 8-1, and a record of 7-1 in the region.
The Pirates have less than a month until they host the Jim Vaughn Invitational starting Apr.22. which will include Pikeville, Bracken County and George Washington; a class-AAA team from West Virginia.
