SOUTH FLOYD, Ky. – The Belfry Pirates of Coach Michael Hagy improved to 6-1 on the season with an 11-0 victory over South Floyd Monday on a cool evening for baseball.
Avery Browning picked up the win on the mound for Belfry pitching five innings. Garrett Fannin pitched a perfect 6th frame to finish the game for the Pirates.
Belfry took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Junior Cameron Catron singled to deep third base, then stole second base and went to third base on a passed ball. He then scored on a wild pitch.
The Pirates added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Fannin started the rally by drawing a walk, then he stole second base. Austin Dotson smacked an RBI double to center field and then Tyler Fields cracked a single to right field scoring Keilan Carr, who was a courtesy runner. Nate Sanger walked, and Dotson and Fields both scored on passed balls. Sanger scored when Cross reached safely on an infield error.
In the Belfry fifth inning, Dotson was safe on an error by the shortstop. He advanced to third base on a wild pitch. Fields slashed an RBI single to center scoring Carr. Sanger doubled to right field and then Cross whacked a 2-run triple to center field. He later scored on yet another wild pitch.
Belfry got three more runs in the top of the sixth inning. Catron reached first base on a bunt single in front of pitcher. He went to second base on a wild pitch. Fields reached safely on another infield error and Catron scored. Sanger was safe on an error by the shortstop and Cross had an RBI single to left field to bring in another run. D. Varney singled to left and Matt Fought had an RBI groundout to pitcher to make it 11-0.
Hunter Johnson took the loss on the mound for South Floyd.
