Middle School girls’ tournament rescheduled

WILLIAMSON – The weather has adjusted more than the thermostat this week. The Mingo County girls’ middle school basketball tournament has been rescheduled due to the wintry conditions.

The tournament was originally scheduled to begin Wednesday night at Mingo Central High School but the Mingo County Board of Education has announced the tournament will begin tonight (Thursday) at Miner’s Gymnasium.

The first round is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., the semi-final round will begin Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m., and then the championship round will be played at the historic Williamson Fieldhouse on Monday. The consolation game will start at 6:30 p.m. with the championship game to follow.

The schools included are Matewan, Gilbert, Kermit, Lenore, Williamson, and Burch. No. 3 seed Kermit will face No. 6 seed Matewan in the first game on Thursday night. Then No. 4 seed Gilbert will face the No. 5 seed Burch 20 minutes after the first game. The semi-final round match-ups will be decided following these games.
