PIKEVILLE – The Belfry Pirates (3-7) won a close game against the Pikeville Panthers (6-8) on Tuesday night by a final score of 55-53.

The game came down to the wire, at Pikeville, when the Pirates were holding onto a slim lead they created in the first period. The Pirates jumped out ahead early by outscoring the Panthers 21-13 in the first. Neither team shot well from behind the arc with both teams making 3-of-15. Both teams were also close on shooting percentage.

Belfry shot 36 percent from the field going 21-of-58, Pikeville shot 39 percent from the field going 22-of-56. Wyatt Battalie did the most damage for the Panthers scoring 22 points during the contest. Battalie ended up with a double-double on the night after pulling down 10 rebounds. Cole Bentley led the Pirates in rebounding with 11 on the night.

The Pirates will face Johnson Central, who is currently riding a four game win-streak into Belfry. The game is scheduled to be played at Belfry on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
