GOODY,Ky – The final game of the 2015 Mountain Schoolboy Classic ended on a bad note for the Belfry Pirates as they lost 64-42 to Magoffin County.
The Pirates trailed Magoffin County through the entire game up until the final period of play. The Pirates fall to a record of 2-6 on the season with the loss. Head Coach Mark Thompson expressed his appreciation of the tournament style experience this environment will bring to his players.
The Pirates played the final game of the night on all three days of the tournament.
Magoffin County outscored the Pirates 20-7 in the first period and then coasted on their lead through the rest of the game. The Hornets also outscored the Pirates in the second period 15-12 to make the score at halftime 35-19 in favor of Magoffin County.
The Hornets outscored Belfry by double after halftime by 16-8 in the third period. Belfry then outscored Magoffin County 15-13 in the final period but the effort was too late. The final score of 64-42 marked the end of the three day tournament. The Pirates finished the tournament with a record of 1-2. Belfry beat Beth Haven in the first game then lost to Tug valley in the second game.
Belfry is scheduled to face Lewis County at the Marvin Meredith Classic on Jan, 2. at 1:45 p.m. and then will travel to neighboring Pikeville on Jan, 5. For an away game scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
