RED JACKET – The Mingo Central Lady Miners won another one on Tuesday night against the Scott Lady Skyhawks with a final score of 55-38.
The Lady Miners jumped out to a big lead early in the game as they outscored the Lady Skyhawks 17-5 in the first period. The second period saw the Lady Miners lose a little bit of momentum and the Lady Skyhawks put up a good defensive effort. The Lady Miners barely outscored Scott 8-7 before half time. The score at halftime had the Lady Miners leading 25-12.
To start the second half both teams came out playing much better but the Lady Miners increased their lead after outscoring the Lady Skyhawks 18-10 in the third period. The score at the beginning of the fourth period was 43-22 in favor of the Lady Miners.
In the fourth period, Lady Miners Coach Jack Stewart decided to use the lead to his advantage and give the bench players some game experience. Alyssa Pack scored five points in the fourth period, off the bench, to help the Lady Miners clinch the victory. The Lady Skyhawks outscored the Lady Miners in the fourth period 16-12 but the damage had already been done.
Stewart said, “I think that is the best four quarters we have played all year. I am extremely proud of these girls and the heart and effort they put in every day. We still have a lot more to do and there are still things we have to work on. They played really well this game on both sides of the ball.” Stewart continued by saying, “We got a great effort out of our JV (junior varsity) girls during that fourth period. I was proud of how hard they played.”
The Lady Miners improved their record to 4-3 and will take the holiday break and return to action on Jan 2. when they travel to face Herbert Hoover.
