POCA – The Mingo Central Miners boys’ basketball team suffered a big loss to the Poca Dots on Tuesday night with a final score of 79-27.

The Dots are the defending Class AA state champions and won their 29th straight game with the win over Mingo Central. The Miners have now lost three straight games. Poca head coach Allen Osbourne told the Charleston Gazette, “Tonight was a really good win for us. We got off to really good start, we shot the ball well and we played hard for 32 minutes. That’s what we’re trying to do.”

The Dots jumped out to a big lead early in the game outscoring the Miners 27-10 in the first quarter. The second quarter ended the same with the Dots outscoring the Miners 19-6.

The Dots didn’t let up in the second half as they outscored the Miners 20-4 in the third quarter and then 13-7 in the fourth quarter.

Poca’s Luke Frampton ended the night with 28 points, he made seven 3-pointers.Elijah Cuffee had 19 points and six rebounds. Austin Henrich had six rebounds for Poca and Kaden Meeks had five assists.

Keyshawn Rhodes led the Miners in scoring with seven points and four rebounds. Daniel Buchannan added five points for the Miners and Dalton Hatfield added five points.

The (0-3)Mingo Central Miners will travel to Tolsia on Friday to face the Rebels. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
